in cycling, the lead out man will pull and shelter their leader from wind drag. they're the one who does everything for the leader.
look at 0.29 (video below), yellow colour jersey team HTC mark renshaw the lead out man fought hard to shelter his leader Mark Cavendish who was tailing him. Renshaw ended up got kicked out from the race for head butting other riders. he did so many things for Cavendish, he sacrificed for Cavendish's stage win.
name and fame will go to Cavendish, while the lead out man will fade and be forgotten over time.
many things in life always happen this way. put in effort for so many years and somehow somebody else will win.
